Privacy Policy

AlumniSetu ("we", "us") operates a verified alumni network for education institutions in India. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account details. Your name and email address, and — if you register with a password — that password (stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in plain text).
Google Sign-In. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile (your name). We do not receive your Google password and do not access your Google contacts, Drive, or other Google data.
Profile you provide. Details you choose to add, such as your institution, course, batch/year, current company or role, and city.
Verification information. To verify you as an alumnus, you may provide a college email, upload a document (e.g. a certificate), or be vouched for by a verified member. We store what is needed to make and record that decision.
Usage & device data. Basic technical logs (e.g. request/correlation IDs) used to operate, secure and debug the service.

We do not store Aadhaar numbers.

How we use your information

To create and secure your account and sign you in.
To verify your identity within your institution and grant the verified badge.
To provide the network's features — the alumni directory, mentorship, jobs, events, giving and the community feed — according to your role and privacy settings.
To communicate service and verification updates.
To prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.

How your information is shared

Within your institution. Your profile is visible to other members of the same institution according to your privacy settings; sensitive fields are hidden unless you opt in. Institution A can never see institution B's members.
Service providers. We use trusted infrastructure providers (for hosting, storage, email/SMS and payments) that process data only to run the service.
Legal. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety and security of users and the platform.
We do not sell your personal information.

Data storage & security

Your data is stored on secured servers. Passwords are hashed, access is scoped per institution, and each institution's data is isolated at the database level. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal, accounting or reporting requirements. You can request deletion (below).

Your choices & rights

Access and update your profile and privacy settings in the app.
Unlink a sign-in method (e.g. Google) in Settings, as long as one method remains.
Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.

Children

AlumniSetu is intended for members of an institution's community and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
